Why I write About Faith and the Backroads
Updated: Sep 9
I’ve always believed some of life’s greatest lessons aren’t learned in a classroom. They’re learned on old backroads, around the supper table, sitting in a deer stand, working with your hands, and walking through the hard seasons of life.
That’s where a lot of my writing comes from.
When I started writing, I didn’t set out to sound like a preacher or have all the answers. I simply wanted to share stories and lessons about faith, family, and the simple things that still matter.
The Backroads books grew from that idea. Whether I’m writing a daily devotional or a story that comes from the heart, I want readers to feel like we’re sitting together on a front porch talking about life and the Lord.
I believe God can teach us something anywhere—even on an old gravel road when we least expect it.
If something I write helps one person grow a little closer to God, remember someone they love, or find some encouragement on a difficult day, then every word was worth writing.
There’s plenty more road ahead.

The Heart Behind the Backroads Books
Faith has always been at the center of what I write. But I also believe faith shows up in the ordinary parts of life—in family, hard work, hunting, country roads, Sunday dinners, and memories we carry with us.
That’s what I want the Backroads books to feel like. Not complicated. Not perfect. Just honest words about real life and a God who meets us right where we are.
Some books are meant to encourage your walk with God. Others tell stories about family, love, loss, and the moments we never forget. But they all come from the same place: faith, family, and the backroads that help shape who we become.
Key Themes in His Devotionals
Faith — Finding God in everyday life, not just on Sunday mornings.
Family — The people, traditions, memories, and lessons that stay with us.
Backroad Living — Country roads, hunting, hard work, simple living, and appreciating where you come from.
Real Life — The good days, the hard days, love, loss, mistakes, and the lessons we pick up along the way.
Encouragement — Reminding readers that no matter where they are on life’s road, God is still there.
Inside Backroads & Blessings
Backroads & Blessings is a 365-day devotional designed to give you a little time with God every day of the year.
Each day includes a KJV Scripture, a simple Thought for Today, a heartfelt Prayer, and a Reflection to help you carry the message with you throughout the day.
The devotionals are written in a down-to-earth style, using everyday life, country living, family, and backroad moments to remind us that God is present in the ordinary parts of our lives.
You don’t have to read for an hour. Just slow down for a few minutes, open God’s Word, and see what He might have for you that day.

A Few Minutes With God Each Day
You don’t need a perfect routine or hours of quiet time to spend meaningful time with God. Sometimes a few honest minutes can change the direction of your whole day.
Find a quiet spot, open your Bible, read the day’s Scripture, and think about how it applies to the life you’re living right now.
Some days the message may encourage you. Other days it may challenge you. And every once in a while, it may feel like God put those exact words in front of you at exactly the right time.
That’s the heart behind Backroads & Blessings—making a little room for God every day and carrying His Word with you wherever the road leads.

Conclusion
I don’t know exactly where this writing journey will lead, but I know why I’m on it. If these books can help someone grow closer to God, hold their family a little tighter, remember where they came from, or find encouragement during a hard season, then they’ve done what I hoped they would do.
Life has a way of taking us down roads we never expected. Some are smooth, some are rough, and some change us forever. But through every mile, God is faithful.
Thanks for spending a little time here with me. I hope you’ll stick around.
Until next time, I’ll see you down the road.
